June 1 5k/10k to benefit Freeport Area HS cross country team

The 19th annual Freeport Flash, a 5K/10K race to benefit the Freeport Area High School Cross Country team will be June 1 on the Butler Freeport Rails to Trails, Buffalo Township.

Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. at Buffalo Nature Center, 154 Monroe Road and the race will begin at 9 a.m. Registration fee is $25 before May 30 and will be $30 on race day. A virtual option is available.

Limited parking is available at Buffalo Nature Center. A shuttle will be available at Freeport Senior High School, 625 South Pike Road. Shuttle rides will begin at 7:15 a.m. with the last shuttle at 8:45 am.

Monthly Breaking Bread dinner planned at Knead Community Cafe

Knead Community Cafe, 1011 Barnes St., New Kensington, will host its free monthly dine-in Breaking Bread dinner at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the cafe.

The meal will be sponsored in memory of Richard Bayne. No takeout meals will be available.

The café is seeking sponsors for its Grab and Go community outreach meals. Meals can be sponsored in honor or in memory of someone or to celebrate a business or organization. For information and to sign up, visit kneadcommunitycafe.org/meal-sponsorships.

Salvation Army to distribute free lunches

The Allegheny Valley Salvation Army and Community Center will distribute free grab-and-go lunches from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday in the center parking lot, 917 Brackenridge Ave., Brackenridge.

Free grocery items from Walmart and Aldi will be available. Everyone is welcome.
