Students work together to build weight-bearing bridges out of flimsy material. Or robots that can climb a ladder to put out a fire.They've got to come up with ideas on how to solve challenges. Sometimes local businesses will provide real problems they're facing themselves.These students then have to try, try again to figure out a solution. More often than not, it's not the first fix that's going to work, either!🤝 And they reinforce their own learning by teaching others. They'll run workshops to teach others how to 3D print or use other makerspace tools.So support your local makerspace! 🏛️ I've been seeing pics of some amazing 3D printed model buildings here on LinkedIn! Architects often create 3D models as part of their conceptualization process. With 3D printing, they can convey an incredible level of detail and design. We've seen city planning projects that use 3D printing to express what whole neighborhoods will potentially look like.Museums create models, too, to showcase cultures or ways of life that are separated from here and now, by either time or distance. Historical buildings can be shown as they were then and now.👉 Ironically, having decided to re-share some LinkedIn 3D printed models...I couldn't find them! #STEM education: science, technology, engineering, math.So a lot of our clients use our software to run the 3D printers in their makerspaces. One challenge they have found is conveying to students that STEM is not scary - specially around middle school.✨ Competitions make it fun. Things like #LegoLeague and the #ScienceOlympiad are really popular.✨ Generally students love 3D printing, and it's a low-barrier entry point to making.✨ And robotics are of course well-loved too.👉 Even more than that, though, is just providing space and an environment for students to discover their own interests. Building with Lego or Lincoln logs. Crafting projects with popsicle sticks. Letting them get their hands dirty and explore catapults, take motors apart, and create model cars.Sometimes you have to keep it a secret that they're learning!!😁 🤐 *** 💖 Love it? 🗝️ The key to getting started in 3D printing...well, maybe print a keychain? Seriously - we've heard from some of our K12 makerspace clients that it's a great first project. Some of them get their teachers to do this type of 3D printing project so they get a better understanding of how they can incorporate the makerspace into their classroom.So hop into Tinkercad and search 'keychain' and you'll bring up hundreds of possibilities. Pick one, and make a few edits: add your name or city to it. Play with the dimensions; make it a little bigger or smaller. ✨ And if you have 3DPrinterOS for your 3D printers, then from in Tinkercad you can send your file straight to your 3D printer! #NoUSB With your design open in Tinkercad, click on "export" then "3D print".
